Deputy Foreign Minister Kabir Farahi Meets ICRC Head of Delegation
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Kabir Farahi today met with the Head of Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Mr. Reto Stocker.
At the outset Mr. Stocker expressed appreciation on behalf of the ICRC for Afghanistan’s cooperation with the institution over the past many years. He attached importance to Afghanistan’s signing of the Geneva Convention and its readiness to ratify and adopt the conventions two-additional protocols, one of which concerned the issue of civilian protection
Deputy Foreign Minister Kabir Farahi conveyed the gratitude of Afghanistan for the role of ICRC in Afghanistan “during difficult and trying times.” He briefed the ICRC representative on the ratification process of the two-additional protocols, stating “both texts had received the approval of the Afghan national assembly,” and that “the letter of accession would be signed by President Karzai in the coming days.
