First Afghanistan Report on Convention on Rights of the Child

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Rangin Dadfar Spanta yesterday took part in official meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to consider Afghanistan's first report on the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Also attending the meeting were senior officials of the Afghan government, diplomatic core and representatives of civil society.
Addressing the gathering, Foreign Minister Spanta noted that the report, which will be presented to the United Nations, was prepared in accordance with Afghanistan's international commitments in protecting, safe-guarding and promoting the rights of children.

The report focused on the various measures taken to ensure the rights of children and prevent violence against them.  It also highlighted the challenges facing children, which resulted from a lack of public awareness.  The report prepared by Afghanistan is the first

Afghanistan ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1994 and the report prepared is the first to be presented by Afghanistan to the United Nations on the issue.
